Dear Students,
Given assignment is based on the ethical concerns for clinical psychologists. Watch the lecture No. 09 carefully before you attempt the assignment. You are required to read the given scenarios carefully. After reading the scenarios, identify the ethical standard (category and sub- category of ethical standard) violated in the scenario and give sound justification.
Scenario No.01:
Aneesa a female client has been in therapy with male therapist for the last six years. She recovered from the psychological illness four years back. Ethically, her therapist should terminate therapy at that time. Therapist provided the justification that “if a client needs to see me then she does so”. Actually, therapist wants to prolong therapy for the sake to charge fee from the client.
Scenario No.02:
A psychologist belongs to a lower socio economic class. He joins the private clinic. There were two psychologists already working there. They did not cooperate with new psychologist in that setting. According to them, psychologist belongs to a lower class and they do not feel comfortable with him.Scenario No.03:
A female client came with the issue of marital conflict towards the male therapist. She complained that the therapist tried to touch her during session. Therapist wants to build intimate relationship with the client. She did not get the opportunity of getting therapies from the therapist rather she experienced the distressful incidence.
Scenario No.04:
A clinical psychologist uses the data of raped clients for the research purpose. Clients do not know about it but it was very disheartening for them as they do not want to disclose their private information to others.
Marking Scheme:
Each scenario will carry 5 Marks (5*4=20)
(2 Marks for Identification and 3 Marks for explanation)

Scenario No. Identification of sub category of ethical standard (2) Justification (3) 1 HUMAN RELATIONS Conflict of Interest In the given scenario, therapist should not exceed the length of therapy session for his own financial interest. It is about to impair the competence of a profession (Psychologist). 2 HUMAN RELATIONS Unfair Discrimination In the given scenario, psychologists should not engage in unfair discrimination based on gender, age, ethnic group, socio economic class and etc. 3 HUMAN RELATIONS Harassment In the given scenario, therapist should not physically harass the client as it the violation of ethical standard. 4 PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY Use of Confidential Information for Educational or Other Purposes In the given scenario, psychologist should not use the confidential information of the raped clients without taking prior permission to them.
