Helmets: Needs of the Hour!
-
While several countries are revisiting their helmet laws, Pakistani traffic police department is busy in running campaigns against two-wheelers across the country. This may prove to be the need of the hour, since road accidents are quiet common in the country. On average, about 4,044 road accidents have been reported to Rescue 1122 within the last six months. Annually, about 15000 traffic accidents happen in Pakistan with casualties ranging between 7500-8000. Fifteen people on average die every day due to road accidents. These statistics only tell us one thing; safety is important! While road safety is somewhat maintained by making drivers wear seat belts and driving according to the traffic rules, safety for riders has never been strictly imposed. The motorcyclists have previously been responsible and accountable for their own lives and well-being, which sadly, hasn’t worked out for the majority. With no strict rules regarding headgears and other safety measures, motorcycling accidents in Pakistan are quite common.
