Objective:
To help the students understand how nature of products dictates the Supply Chain Strategy.
Scenario:
“CHLORO CHEM”, a chemical manufacturing company, has set up a manufacturing plant in Lahore. The company aims to produce a range of chemicals used in agriculture and food processing; which results in a number of variants of the products. The basic raw materials are the same for all the end products, but the final differentiation occurs after processing with other additives.
Currently the company is following a LEAN supply chain strategy with the target to have large amounts of finished products to be held in stores. The company anticipates that this strategy will help them for the mass production of the end products, which will ultimately culminate in saving the per unit cost.
Question:
Being a student of Supply Chain, do you favor this strategy of the company or not – keeping in view the whole situation? Discuss with solid arguments.
