Question – 1 10 Marks
The complete channel bandwidth. The maximum no. of channels available. The no. of required channel per cell in a cluster having i= 3 & j = 2.
Consider a certain Cellular network system in which we had used frequency-based division duplexing mechanism. The total assigned bandwidth of the system is 100 MHz, whereas the network uses 30 KHz channel for full duplex communication. In view of this, you are required to calculate the following:Note: All calculation steps and formulas carry marks. So, you need to write every step involved with justifications wherever required.
Question – 2 10 Marks
Suppose we had an area covered using 10 Cells. Assume that during a busy hour, the number of calls per hour (Qi) for each 10 cells is given as :
2000, 1500, 1300, 1000, 1900, 400, 670, 1300, 1900 and 2100.Let us assume that 60 percent of the car phones will be used during this period (ηc = 0.6) and that one call is made per car phone.
You are required to calculate the total no of calls made in stated hour. Also calculate the total number of customers in the system.
Note: All calculation steps and formulas carry marks. So, you need to write every step involved with justifications wherever required.

The objective of this assignment is to increase the learning capabilities of the students about:
• WCDMA Modulation
• Channel Capacity in WCDMA
• Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)
• Spread CodeAssignment
Question – 01Consider a CDMA network which has a chip rate of 384 MCPS (Megachips Per Second). The network has a downlink spreading factor (SF) of 8. The channel control overhead is 5%. By considering the given scenario, answer the following questions:
What will be the symbol rate for downlink channels? What will be channel bit rate if bit rate per symbol is 2? What will be the maximum user available data rate?
Note: Provide complete steps of calculation otherwise marks will be deducted.Question – 02
Consider a WCDMA network which uses direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) as a modulation technique to encode the transmitted data in a way to reduce the noise interference. Now, suppose you want to transmit a 16-bit data 8B 85 (given in hexadecimal form) over the network. What will be the output spread data if data is modulated by using the 8-bit spread code AB?
Note: The data values are given in hexadecimal for the sake of increased readability.
Best of Luck!

To enhance the learning capabilities of the students about:
• GSM Specifications
• Frequency Distribution
• GSM Network Services
• GSM ArchitectureAssignment
What will be the total number of channels available to the network? What will be the uplink and downlink frequency of channel number 50?
Question - 01
Consider a P-GSM network having uplink frequency range 890 – 915 MHz and downlink frequency range 935 - 960 MHz. The channel spacing in P-GSM is 200 KHz whereas the duplex spacing between the uplink and downlink frequency of a channel is 45 MHz. Considering the given scenario, answer the following questions:Note: Provide complete steps of calculation in both parts
Question - 02
Why is Ali’s mobile getting the signals of Zain Telecom network on Mobilink SIM? Which network components will be used when Ali makes a call? Explain the complete call setup process in this case.
Ali, who is a subscriber of Mobilink GSM, goes to Makkah to perform Umrah. He brings his phone with him so that he is able to stay connected with his relatives. Upon reaching Makkah, he notices that his phone is receiving the signals from a Zain Telecom instead of Mobilink. Not only this, Ali is still able to make and receive calls from/on his mobile through the network of Zain Telecom. Keeping into view the given scenario, answer the following questions.Good Luck!

Question – 1
Consider a network consisting of 3 clusters. Each cluster uses the frequency reuse parameters i=1 and j=3 to allocate frequency channel to the cells in the clusters. You are required to draw cell pattern showing all three clusters and label the co-channel cells with same name.
Question – 2
Consider a situation where a cellular network is allocated 300 duplex channels to provide network services in a service region. The company decides to replicate the clusters 10 times and uses a frequency reuse factor of 12. The radius of each cell will be 2 miles. For the given scenario, answer the following questions:
What will be maximum number of channels that the network can use at any given time? What should be the minimum distance kept between two co-channel cells in order to avoid any interference?Best of Luck!

@moaaz said in CS314 Assignment 1 Solution and Discussion:
The complete channel bandwidth.
Bandwidth is a fixed quantity, so it cannot be changed. Hence, the channel capacity is directly proportional to the power of the signal, as SNR = (Power of signal) / (power of noise). so for example a signal-to-noise ratio of 1000 is commonly expressed as: 10 * log10(1000) = 30 dB.
Capacity = bandwidth * log2(1 + SNR)
Output1 : C = 30000 * log2(1 + SNR) = 30000 * 11.62 = 348600 bps
