SANTA FE, N.M. — The Head and the Heart is stopping in Taos as part of the band’s set of small shows out West.

The popular indie band’s soothing folk-rock sound has become popular with singles like “Shake,” “Let’s Be Still” and “All We Ever Knew.” Singer Josiah Johnson and guitarist Jonathan Russell formed the band in 2009 in Seattle, along with other original members Charity Rose Thielen, Kenny Hensley, Chris Zasche and Tyler Williams. They churned out albums in 2011 and 2013, and after a brief break, came back to record 2016’s “Signs of Light.” Today, Theilen’s husband Matty Gervais has stepped in for Johnson who has been on hiatus since 2016 to focus on battling an unspecified addiction. Pianist Hensley is also on leave from the group.

The Head and the Heart’s show is 8 p.m. Tuesday at Taos Mesa Brewing, 20 ABC Mesa Road. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $31 in advance or $35 the day of the show. Purchase online through holdmyticket.com or by calling 505-886-1251.

PLAY ROOM FOR KIDS: Back in December, the Journal North reported on the opening of the Museum of Interactive Art, the brainchild of local artist Aaron Harrington, who took over part of the Shidoni Gallery and Sculpture Garden’s shuttered Tesuque foundry to set up his interactive art installations. He’s moving further into the foundry with his latest permanent exhibition space, which opens this week.

The Invent Your Own Reality Room is basically an imagination play room for kids. The room is expected to be filled with materials like magazines for collages and boxes that can be turned into forts. He also will be adding tables with art materials where people can use his “Build-a-Beast” workshop or other projects. “I’ve never seen a permanent art museum installation that is constantly being created by the public like this and look forward to bringing it to fruition,” Harrington said in an announcement.

Opening week for the Invent Your Own Reality Room is Tuesday-Saturday this week. The Museum of Interactive Art, 1508 Bishops Lodge Rd., is open on those days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $5 or free for kids under 3.
