(Meredith) — Apple has created clever ways to protect your iPhone from peering eyes, but this one critical flaw can divulge your hidden messages to practically anyone. According to Mashable, you can now access messages without using your passcode, thumbprint or Face ID by simply having Siri read them aloud to you. It’s really that simple. According to the report, a new privacy bug reveals that you can simply ask Siri to spy on someone’s hidden notifications from third-party applications. The Verge also confirmed that the bug affects third-party messaging apps like Slack or Facebook Messenger. iMessage and Apple’s app are reported to be safe. This Siri bug defeats a layer of security for these third-party apps, The Verge said. However, Apple’s own software remains “relatively locked down”. It can happen even with the “Show Previews” featured is set to display only “When Unlocked” (Settings > Notifications > Show Previews), Siri will still read hidden notifications aloud by saying “Hey Siri, read my notifications.”Brazillian site Mac Magazine confirmed that this Siri bug extends to iPhones and iPads running iOS 11.3.The magazine also verified that other messaging apps like Skype are affected by the flaw.Until Apple steps in to fix the bug, you can avoid any privacy snooping by turning off lock screen notifications for these third-party apps.Copyright 2018 Meredith Corporation.
