The PS1’s second favourite platform hero is backAll the rumours seem to be true: the first three Spyro The Dragon games are getting remastered for the PS4 and they’ll be out this autumn.
VR game review round-up – the best new games for PSVR, HTC Vive, and Oculus RiftAfter the unexpected success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy it’s been pretty obvious to everyone that Activision would do the same thing with Spyro, and now we have the proof.
The box art above appeared on the Mexican Amazon website and although the image has been taken down the listing is still there, and you don’t need Google Translate to tell it’s out on September 21.
The product description is just in English though and promises the following:
All 3 original Spyro games fully remastered in HD
Includes Spyro The Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year Of The Dragon
100+ levels, remastered with breathtaking graphical updates and improved gameplay controls
In other words exactly the same approach that made N. Sane Trilogy one of the biggest games of last year.
The box art even reveals the developer, as Toys for Bob. They created the Skylanders franchise back in 2011, which was technically a reboot of Spyro – although the character became less prominent as the series went on.
IGN has been teasing an official reveal for Spyro Reignited Trilogy all week so it’s likely the Amazon listing only went up a few hours and we’ll get to see some actual game footage this week, perhaps even today.
One question that remains is whether original developer Insomniac, now best known for Ratchet & Clank and the forthcoming Spider-Man game, will be involved. But it’s likely they only have an advisory role at best.
