Starting in May, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is getting a pair of new colours, Burgundy Red and Sunrise Gold. The pair of colours joins the existing lineup of Midnight Black, Lilac Purple and Coral Blue, but unfortunately aren’t set to make their way to the UK just yet.
That’s right, for the time being the pair of colours will be available in just a small handful of countries each. The Burgundy Red edition will see a release in Korea and China from May, while Sunrise Gold will be available in a slightly wider group of territories from June — although we’re struggling to work out the reasoning behind the selection.

See if you can work out the common factor shared between the following territories; Australia, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. It’s not that they’re all developing countries (Australia and Germany ruin that theory), and the countries hail from four different continents, so geography isn’t the cause.

It’s confusing that these particular countries are going to be lucky enough to see a release (although further markets are promised ‘soon’), but the good news is that the handsets themselves look pretty nice. If we had to pick, we’d go for the Burgundy Red version, which looks striking without being too bright like Apple’s red iPhones.
For more information you can read the official press release on Samsung’s site. Fingers crossed the colours see a wider release sooner rather than later.
