Notched smartphone displays seem to be the next big thing in the industry, and it appears that Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship device will come with a fairly large notch at the top of the screen. Manufacturers are choosing to integrate a notch to further increase the screen-to-body ratio and eliminate the top bezel. The upcoming OnePlus 6 smartphone, for example, will have a small screen cutout. Unlike most other flagship smartphones with a display cutout, the Xiaomi Mi 7 would have a relatively compact size of 5.65 inches.
The Mi series is the regular flagship line of Xiaomi’s smartphones. Remarkably, the Chinese brand already has a specific series of smartphones with very minimal bezels, the Mi Mix. In order to achieve this, the company puts necessary objects such as the front-facing camera and sensor in the chin of the smartphone, beneath the display.
However, the company seems to be taking a different approach for the Xiaomi Mi 7 which is more in line with the rest of the competition. A photograph of the phone’s front panel has been leaked and it is also compared to a front panel of the upcoming Vivo X21.
The leaked picture clearly shows that the Mi 7 features a notch, although it’s best to take this picture with a grain of salt, just in case. Earlier rumors and screenshots reported that the phone would come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 system-on-a-chip, 8 GB of internal memory and a whopping 4480 mAh – a whopping difference compared to the Mi 6’s 3350 mAh capacity. Xiaomi will most likely also release a larger Mi 7 Plus smartphone with a 6-inch display.
