In-app purchases have seldom had a popular opinion by app users, though the trend appears to be gaining popularity. With developers continually placing the option in apps and games, the in-app option is apparently here to stay. A recent report suggests that it’s successful, too.According to a report by Sensor Tower, in-app purchases are quite popular now, as the firm states that iPhone users in the United States spent 23 percent more on in-app purchases in 2017 than that of 2016. The report stated that the “average amount spent” topped out at a new high of $58USD in 2017.  The average in 2016 was $47.Games covered roughly $36 of that. Entertainment apps came in second, followed by music, social networking, and finally, lifestyle applications. Purchases from Apple’s first-party in-app purchase system were included in the numbers. The report also suggested that apps downloaded increased as well.According to the report, iPhone users installed four more apps in 2017 than that of 2016. Game installs increased by seven percent, while photo and video app installs decreased by 10 percent.Games again made up the largest share of those apps at just over 13 installed per device, up from 12.3 in 2016, a 7 percent increase year-over-year. Among the remaining most-downloaded categories on iPhone last year in the U.S., Entertainment grew 7 percent from 2.9 per device to 3.1 on average, and Utilities grew 4 percent from 2.3 to 2.4 per phone.Social Networking was unchanged at 2.9 installs per device, while Photo & Video app installs per iPhone decreased 10 percent year-over-year from 4 installs to 3.6 per phone. This certainly doesn’t bode well for people who were hoping that the option would soon go away. It’s safe to say that app developers will certainly rejoice at the report. So regardless of how anyone feels about in-app purchases, it looks like it’s here to stay.Where do you stand on in-app purchases?
