Chipmaker MediaTek is expected to have a strong second quarter thanks to its Helio P60 chipset. Manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi are expected to use the chip to power some of their upcoming handsets. The Helio P60 chipset includes the NeuroPilot platform, which gives it the ability to offer certain AI features. And with MediaTek’s suppliers gearing up to produce components for the Helio P60, shipments to the three aforementioned manufacturers will begin next quarter.Besides the Helio P60, MediaTek has been working hard on developing its next-gen chipsets with built-in AI support. These chips will see the light of day in the second half of this year. Besides smartphones and tablets, MediaTek expects to find its new SoCs used to power automotive electronics and in televisions. Thanks to the Lunar New Year holiday, MediaTek grossed only $12.708 billion NT ($436 million USD) last month; that was a three-year low. Analysts expect a swift rebound to $20 billion NT ($684.67 million USD) this month with the top line continuing to rise monthly during the second quarter. The Helio P20 is built using the 12nm process. It supports a dual camera setup up to 24MP + 16MP, or a single camera with a 32MP sensor. It carries an octa-core CPU that includes four Cortex-A73 cores running as fast as 2GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 2GHz. A Mali-G72 MP3 GPU is on board, running at 800MHz. The Helio P60 provides a 70% jump in performance from the previous-generation Helio P23 chipsets, with up to 25% savings in power consumption during heavy duty game play. Overall, power consumption is 12% less when compared to the Helio P23. source: Digitimes
