A concept render provides a glimpse at what could be expected from HTC’s next flagship, the U12 Plus. The Taiwan-based company is yet to reveal any details surrounding its upcoming flagship but after recent rumors pointed towards the release of just one device instead of the previously-expected two, Twitter user @CContentCreator has created a set of renders that show what the new smartphone could look like.
Looking at the images, the HTC U12 Plus renders depict a device that once again boasts a glass design sandwiched between a premium aluminum frame, much like last year’s U11. The overall shape of the device does, however, appear to be much more rectangular and also removes the curve that was previously present on the rear glass. Speaking of the rear, the overall look is pretty minimalist, with the HTC brand logo being placed in the center of the panel, while a new, horizontal dual-camera setup made up of a main 16-megapixel sensor and a secondary 12-megapixel lens is also featured slightly higher up. Placed between the logo and the camera setup are an LED flash and a circular, rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Moving away from the rear, the front panel of the concept is adorned with a large 18:9 display that boasts extremely thin bezels either side. The bottom bezel has also been left bare, while the top one is home to an in-ear speaker and a dual 8-megapixel selfie setup. In terms of the device’s frame, the right side of the device features a volume rocker and a red-colored power button. Furthermore, beneath the device is a USB Type-C port and a bottom-firing speaker, while a 3.5mm headphone jack is not present.
Regarding specs, HTC’s 2018 flagship is rumored to boast Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 alongside both 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In addition, Android 8.1 Oreo is expected to be included with HTC’s Sense overlay on top, while a large 3450mAh battery is rumored to keep the lights on. Color-wise, if the concept renders are anything to go by, the HTC U12 Plus could be available in Silver, Black, and Solar Red. HTC is yet to confirm any release details officially, but the latest rumors point towards a late April or early May release.
