Comcast provided a statement to CNBC confirming a “nationwide outage impacting some of our internet, video and voice customers.”
According to DownDetector, the outage appears focused on the East and West Coasts.
Comcast has also confirmed that one of its “large backbone network partners had a fiber cut,” and that that may be responsible for the outages.
One of our large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It’s currently affecting our business & residential internet, video & voice customers. We apologize and are working to get services restored as soon as possible. -Gabbie

Meanwhile, reports are trickling in that this may actually be the result of two fiber lines being cut — although that remains unconfirmed at present.
