Tooth be told, we’re wild about connected technology. And since you’re here, you probably are too.

All jokes aside, oral hygiene and the healthy of your teeth are seriously important. We’ve all seen those electric toothbrush commercials that claim to be the best at cleaning between your gums, preventing cavities, warding off gum disease, yadda yadda yadda. But how do you know which ones are really worth the space in that cup by your sink? How do you know what features are actually useful?

We like to think that the best way to tell if you’ll be satisfied with any tech purchase is by asking people who already own whatever you’re looking to buy. So, we did just that…sorta

We looked at Walmart and Amazon reviews to see what real people like yourself had to say about the electric toothbrushes they’ve bought over the years. We’re happy to share with you the brands people like, the features they enjoy, and how you can find a discount or two.

We also looked at some tech know-it-alls like PC Mag and Engadget to see what the experts had to say about the internet’s top choices of electric toothbrushes.

Here are eight of the best electric toothbrushes, in no particular order:

Discover the future of position detection technology with the Genius 8000 by Oral B. If you’re wondering what that is, here goes: it’s advanced tech that allows you to see where you’re bushing on an app, so you can make adjustments and never miss a spot. It’s pretty standard with all smart toothbrushes these days.

This Oral B toothbrush features a 360-degree SmartRing, which is pretty much just a visible-from-every-angle bar that gives you feedback about how much pressure you should be applying while brushing. Connect the Genius 8000 with your smartphone using Bluetooth and it can be programmed to illuminate with your choice of 12 different colors as you wipe all the gross stuff from your teeth.

The feedback that the Oral-B Genius 8000 gives you in real-time via the Oral-B app can help you improve your bushing habits. It’s worth noting though that you’ll need to mount your phone to your bathroom mirror as you brush in order to get the feedback. You’ll probably also like the The Focused Care feature that allows you to implement your dentist’s recommendations through customizable brushing plans of key focus areas. If you’d rather use a pre-programmed routine, the Dental Care Journeys feature allows you to do just that. Choose between Fresh Breath, Plaque Fighter, Whitening, Gum Health, and Ortho Care journeys and you’ll be well on your way to a cleaner smile.

Amazon customers give this one a 4.3 out of 5 star rating. Here what Amazon reviewer Kay had to say in their Amazon review of the Oral-Be Genius 8000 smart toothbrush:

I feel like this thing should be hanging on Batman’s utility belt, not just chillin’ in the corner of my bathroom counter. When my dentist told me I needed an electric toothbrush I did not expect to buy a hand held Cadillac. I ordered this thing on Amazon and I opened it today, and you will not believe what in fresh hell this thing comes loaded with. This thing has 6 different modes, 6 different heads, wireless charging, a charging travel hard case, customizable LED colors (your choice of 12), Bluetooth connectivity, pressure detectors, and all of it connects to an app with facial recognition technology to tell you spots you’ve missed and tips while it suspends your phone with a military grade suction cup you put on your bathroom mirror. In short? My new toothbrush has more features and bad ass specs than my freaking car…and half of the gadgets in my house combined. Is this what the future looks like?

Place your toothbrush in the glass to charge

This electric toothbrush can automatically adjust the optimal mode and intensity level for you based on the brush head you choose. Connect the Sonicare Diamond to the Sonicare app to get real time feedback and personalized coaching. This electric toothbrush adjusts to the contours of your teeth, removing tons of hidden plaque and may even improve overall gum health.

Like other toothbrushes on this list, the Sonicare Diamond has a Location Sensor that shows where you’re brushing too much or too little. The Scrubbing Sensor helps to improve your brushing technique and the Pressure Sensor alerts you if you’re being a bit aggressive and brushing too hard.

TouchUp mode on the app highlights spots you missed to help you get better overall coverage. Sure it costs over a hundred bucks, but you can track your progress, check out a personalized 3D mouth map, and hopefully save some money on dentist visits in the future.

You can even get replacement reminders for when it’s time to buy a new brush head. If you’re an on-the-go kinda guy or gal, just grab the portable charging case included with the Diamond and take the toothbrush with you virtually anywhere. After you start seeing results you can confidently share your progress report with you dentist.

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 has an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon, with reviewer Hugo writing:

“I recently upgraded to this toothbrush from a Philips Sonicare Flexcare and it has been absolutely worth it. If you are considering upgrading from a traditional toothbrush to an electric / sonic toothbrush I would recommend doing it immediately. For me, getting an electric toothbrush has been the best investments in personal hygiene by far. It is something I use multiple times a day, and every time I switch back to a traditional toothbrush or any reason, I can tell the difference. Even my dentist is astounded every time I go for a cleaning about twice a year, the sessions are super short as there is barely any plaque build up. If you are new to the space, I wouldn’t waste my time with other options and go straight the best money can buy, and fortunately you don’t have to look any longer because this product is it.”

PC Mag rated this toothbrush “excellent” with 4 out of 5 stars, Amazon customers give it 4 out of 5 stars as well, and Walmart reviewers think it’s a 4.5-star choice. We imagine you’ll probably love it too.

As one of the biggest players in the smart toothbrush game, Philips Sonicare knows what’s up. The Flexcare Platinum is like the kid sister to the Diamond Clean Smart 9300. This electric toothbrush is more than just a toothbrush connected to an app: It uses motion sensors to track your technique, and the companion app lets you know how you can improve. You’ll find out what areas to focus more on, and you can be reminded to use mouthwash and actually floss. It’s a soft bristle toothbrush that can reportedly deliver 31,000 brush strokes per minute to help remove plaque and stains.

The differences between the Flexcare Platinum Connected and the DiamondClean Smart toothbrushes seem pretty minor. While the DiamondClean Smart comes with three brush heads, the Flexcare Platinum only has two. Both smart toothbrushes have travel cases, but the Flexcare Platinum’s is slightly less premium than the one for the DiamondClean. The Flexcare Platinum also lacks the visual pressure feedback and a gum health mode. However, this model actually has more brushstrokes per minute when compared to its pricier sibling.

Walmart customer CuteEverythingCome writes:

“It has long been my opinion that any electric toothbrush, regardless of how cheaply it is made, will work more effectively than any manual toothbrush, no matter how expensive or fancy it may be. That said, I think the Philips Sonicare FlexCare+ Rechargeable Toothbrush Kit may be the world’s best-made one.”

Amazon customer Cobra writes in their review:

“My original Sonicare that I’ve had for like ten years it seems finally gave out and this was the closest match to what I had. It works fine, just as I would expect from this quality product. I thought about spending more for the highest Diamond model, but the more I compared this Platinum model to the Diamond model. . . . this was easily the better buy, as some other people concluded as well. It has 3 intensities, and a Bluetooth application that can work with your smartphone to track your actual use and precise unique time to replace your brush heads (a great feature). It has a vibration feature to alert the user of certain things. Its brush head speed (62,000 brush strokes per minute) is twice that of the Diamond (31,000 brush strokes per minute).”

If you’re looking for an electric toothbrush on a budget, this model by Oral-B is an excellent option. The Oral-B Pro 1000 wants to affordably replace your regular manual toothbrush. With a 4.6 star rating, over 1000 Walmart customers were blown away by its performance. The design of the CrossAction brush head enables the toothbrush to surround each tooth with 16-degree angled bristles. The 3D cleaning action oscillates, spins, and pulsates to break up any gunk lodged between your teeth and along your gum line. It has a pressure sensor that will light up if you brush too hard and a built-in timer will let you know when you’ve brushed for the detnist-recommended two-minute duration.

Though the Oral-B Pro 1000 lacks the smart tech of other toothbrushes on this list — like the Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean Smart 9300 and the Oral B Genius 8000 — it’s a good stepping stone for those just looking to get into the electric tootbrush game or who don’t necessarily need an app to tell them how to brush their teeth. This model could also be a good investment for kids who could use a boost in the toothbrushing department.

Walmart purchaser Evilgnome2 writes:

“This is a basic electric toothbrush, which is just what I wanted. If you want more bells and whistles, look at other more expensive models. This model, however, seems to do it all. I like the simplicity of this brush and it accommodates other types of brush heads, i.e., floss action, sensitive, etc. The brush is very easy to use, though it may take a few days to get get used to it.

Everyone has their own unique set of teeth. Every unique set of teeth has its own unique oral care needs. Lucky for you, the Oclean One by Sonic was designed to address each of these. If you’re looking for a smart toothbrush for under $100, this one could be a good bet. The AI-enabled application recommends brushing plans based on age, gender, tooth condition, and diet. You can also adjust brushing plans based on modifying duration, intensity, and mode. Every time you brush, the app will generate a score that analyzes the areas you can improve on. It basically turns brushing your teeth into a game. Except here, everybody wins — especially you.

The makers of the Oclean One boast about their high quality bristles. As for charging time, expect to have this electric toothbrush up and running after 3.5 hours in order to be fully charged. It has a 60-day battery life and can perform up to 50,000 strokes per minute.

This electric toothbrush is extra lightweight at only 55 grams. The bristles are medium soft to avoid abrasion to teeth, enamel, and gums. With five modes of cleaning like White, Clean, Sensitive, Polish, and Massage, you’re guaranteed a brushing experience to suit different conditions of teeth and gums. Looking for a toothbrush for you kids or grandparents? There are combinations of strong and gentle modes so it’s comfortable for all ages.

Amazon customer Tajon writes:

“Since I’ve started to use this toothbrush in combination with improving my brushing habits, my oral health has definitely started to show more results. For the mere price of 20 dollars to be provided with 3 extra heads, a timer for proper brushing, as well as 5 different brushing modes, this is an absolute steal and a solid product as far as electric toothbrushes go.”

All you need is two AA batteries to run the Spinbrush Pro — no special charging connector required. The Spinbrush Pro has a single up and down power button that’s simple and functional. The base of this battery powered toothbrush is removable. One slight drawback on this electric toothbrush is that there is no battery status icon so you have no idea how long the battery has left until you feel the brush power becoming weaker.

The dual action head is supposed to help you achieve whiter teeth in just seven days. If you’re looking for a visual or audible timer, the Spinbrush might not be the best choice for you. But if you’re looking for a pretty standard electric toothbrush with replaceable heads, or trying to get your kids excited about brushing their teeth, this cheap electric toothbrush gets the job done.

Amazon customers give it an average of 4.2 stars. DF98 writes:

“This toothbrush is so much better than the new mini head electric toothbrushes! This does not have an interval shutoff timer, which is annoying to have so that is wonderful and also the head has two motions, a vibrate and also a back and forth scrubbing action of the round part of the bristles, which gets the teeth AND gums very clean! Also works well on the tongue.”

Never heard of Kipozi? It’s time to familiarize yourself. The company set out to create a top notch electric toothbrush and with a 4.6 star rating on Amazon, it looks like Kipozi succeeded.

This electric toothbrush can perform up to 40,000 strokes per minute to help remove stains and plaque. Unlike the Arm and Hammer option at a similar price point, this one does include a built-in two-minute auto timer. Charge it for four hours using a USB port and enjoy a minimum of 30 days of brushing time when you use twice per day.

You can adjust between three different precision modes, including Clean, Sensitive, and Massage.

  1. Clean: Intended for normal everyday brushing.

  2. Sensitive: Created for people with sensitive teeth.

  3. Massage: Made for gum care.

Now that you know a little bit more about Kipozi, let’s see what customers have to say about the toothbrush. One reviewer writes:

“I am extremely pleased with this toothbrush. It functions very well, giving the feeling that it is cleaning my teeth very effectively while using a light touch. Its three settings are very good, it came with two extra heads, it looks really slick in black and very crucially for me (and any world traveler), if charges through a USB plug.”
